GI-tagged products of J&K in need of regional Packaging Institute for customisation
Srinagar, Jan 4 (KNN) An Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) needs to be set up as a regional centre in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) so that customized packaging is developed for local GI-tagged and niche products, said Dr Tanweer Alam, Director IIP Mumbai.
He said this at the inaugural ceremony of a one-week training programme on “Integrated Supply Chain Management of High-Value Cash Crops with special reference to Apple and Saffron”.
It was organised in the conference hall of Vice Chancellor secretariat, SKUAST-Kashmir.
The Division of Food Science & Technology; SKUAST-Kashmir, Shalimar is organising the event and it is sponsored by MSME, Government of India.
Delivering the welcome address, Prof. Syed Zameer Hussain, Professor and Head, Division of Food Science and Technology deliberated upon the quality deterioration in perishable products like apples with time and highlighted the need to have integrated strategies for the quality retention of perishables.
On the occasion four books published by international and national publishers and authored by faculty and scholars of the Division of Food Science and Technology were also released. (KNN Bureau)
