UP, Delhi Govt announce to provide monetary help to daily wage labourers

New Delhi/Lucknow, Mar 21 (KNN) In the wake of Coronavirus which has almost paralysed the world and have succeeded in bringing down the  economic to its knees, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have announced to provide monetary help to daily wage labourers and construction workers to meet their needs.

Yogi Adityanath said that the state government would give lakhs of daily wage labourers and construction workers Rs 1,000 per day to meet their needs.

"Rs 1000 each will be given 15 lakh daily wage labourers and 20.37 lakh construction workers via direct benefit transfer to help them meet their daily needs," Yogi Adityanath said in a news conference, on Saturday.

The announcement comes as India races to contain the spread of the new coronavirus disease, Covid-19. Over 270 people have been infected so far, and four have died.

There were 23 cases in Uttar Pradesh. Nine people have recovered, he said.

Meanwhile, taking a cue from Yogi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday too announced give financial assistance to daily wage workers.

''Delhi government will pay salaries to all contract workers, daily wage labourers, guest teachers whose offices have been declared closed due to #coronavirus,'' AAP tweeted.

The total number of coronavirus cases has climbed to 26 in the national capital. Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that all malls in the national capital will be shut. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and vegetable shops in the malls, however, will remain open.

At present, there are 258 COVID-19 patients in India. Of these, 219 are Indians and 39 are foreign nationals.
