UP Elections: First phase of voting begins; all eyes set on three way contest

Lucknow, Feb 11 (KNN) As the first phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections begins today in the key constituencies of Mathura, Meerut, Ghaziabad and Noida, among others, all eyes are set on the three way contest between BJP, BSP and SP-Congress alliance.

The election in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Manipur and Uttarakhand - is taking place at a time when many are upset due to PM Modi’s demonetization drive while some are not happy due to pro-poor and pro-farmer budget.

After the entire tussle within the Samajwadi Party, the party tied up with Congress with a view to seal its win.

A total of 839 candidates are contesting the crucial election. The Congress will contest 24 seats whereas the Samajwadi Party has given tickets to 51 contestants in the first-phase.

So far, Kasganj witnessed 13 per cent polling in the first two hours, Muzaffarnagar 15, Meerut 10, Mathura 11, Noida seven and Greater Noida nine per cent. (KNN Bureau)
