Lucknow, Jun 10 (KNN) The proposed eastern industrial freight corridor connecting Amritsar-Delhi-Kolkatta will contribute to rapid industrialisation of the northern states.  Apart from this, the UP government plans to create a parallel industrial investment zone which will open new avenues for development of cement, steel and fertilizer industries in India’s most populated state.

“The eastern industrial freight corridor will help in fast growth of industries in northern state which are low on industrialisation index. The industrial corridor will connect Saharanpur, Muzzafarnagar, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Kanpur rural area and Kanpur city in the state apart from other important cities. The corridor will also lead to development of infrastructure in the state which will pass through these cities,” UP Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav told the media recently.

Many policy initiatives are on the cards to attract investment into the state.  The state government has also asked the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to contemplate building a parallel industrial zone alongside the eastern corridor to help bring about prosperity to the high density state.

The Chief Minister also said, “The proposed industrial corridor will help in building infrastructure in Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. The state has progressed a lot in agricultural sector.  UP produces and supplies wheat, potato, sugar and milk in large quantities. The proposed industrial corridor will bring investment in the state which will facilitate industrialisation of the state and create jobs.”

The young Chief Minister also promised that small and medium enterprises will be promoted in the state. The UP government while developing new industrial units is working towards protecting the existing ones.

Showing its commitment, the state government has allotted 5,000 hectare land in Jhansi and Auraya to promote an investment zone in the state.

Meanwhile the Principal Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Javed Usmani said that the industrial corridor passing through various places in the state will benefit from the development of infrastructure.  Significantly, 1049 km of the 1840 km industrial corridor passes through UP.

The industrial freight corridor will divide the state into two parts determining the parameter of industrial development of the state.

“Uttar Pradesh has huge potential for development in agriculture, fertilizer, cement and steel which will get further impetus with the development of infrastructure in the state thanks to the planned industrial corridor,” said Usmani.   (KNN)
