UP govt to focus on agri, transport and MSME sector in energy efficiency plan

Lucknow, May 25 (KNN) The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to focus on high energy consuming sectors such as agriculture, MSME, transport and construction and bring down there consumption with the help of first ever energy efficiency plan which is expected to be released by the second week of July.

A stakeholder’s discussion around the State Energy Efficiency Action plan took place last week and officials have said that the plan on energy efficiency aims to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

The department of environment, forest and climate change and UPNEDA will work together to ensure the successful implementation of the plan.

Sharing the vision of the plan, Ashish Tiwari, Secretary, Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change said that one of the major aspects will be to create awareness on energy efficiency.

It has been noted that sectors such as agriculture, construction, transport and MSME have high energy consumption and they need to adopt energy efficient practices.

A lot of energy in consumed in the cold storages in agricultural sector to maintain a certain temperature. To curb the high level of consumption, the plan will focus on making cold storages energy efficient and take up similar initiatives for other sectors, like MSME for which efforts have already started, said officials.

A MoU between the state government and the Energy Efficiency Services Limited is likely to be signed to reduce energy consumption and carbon emission in MSME units in brass and foundry units in Moradabad, glassware in Firozabad and pottery in Khurja.  (KNN Bureau)
