UP mandates RFID tags for e-way bill from Nov 1

Lucknow, Sept 13 (KNN) The Uttar Pradesh Government has made it mandatory from November 1 to obtain Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag for fulfilling e-Way bill requirements. With this UP has become the first state to mandate RFID cards for e-way bill.

UP’s Commercial Tax Commissioner has issued a notification in this regard stating that the transporters who ferry goods that require an e-Way bill, should have an RFID tag embedded on the windscreens of their vehicles.

“Before transportation of such goods in the territory of Uttar Pradesh, vehicles shall obtain an RFID tag and get the said tag embedded on windscreen of the conveyance carrying such goods and get it mapped to the e-way bill system,” said the notification.

Maharashtra has also completed a pilot project for use of the RFID tag.

The e-Way bill is mandatory for the transportation of goods valued at Rs 50,000 or more between States (inter-State) and within a State (intra-State).

Though the e-way rules require the use of RFID tag, no other state has made it mandatory since the rollout of the e-way bill in April.
