Lucknow, Jun 23 (KNN)  Leveraging its strong fleet of 9,400 buses, the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has announced plans to launch parcel and courier services in partnership with private firms.

In a press notification, the corporation said its large bus service "provides good opportunity for movement of commodities as packets and parcels to covered destinations and for their onward movement from there”.

The proposed venture is to explore the opportunity of providing usage right of its bus network for carrying courier and parcels by private firms in order to generate additional revenue for itself.

The corporation will provide a separate area of luggage carrier on the roof top of the buses enabling the service providers to carry couriers and parcels for different destinations.

The agencies will be authorised to display the name of its company on these boxes in standard size of 15cm x 45cm. The maximum weight that can be carried on any particular bus under this arrangement will not exceed 500 kilogram, it said.

In this context, UPSRTC is inviting bids from various entities like single entrepreneur, a partnership firm, a company incorporated under the Indian Companies Act, 1956 or any other legal entity or a group of legal entities which is registered under specific act or regulation.
