Uttar Pradesh Tops MSME Sector, Workers Propel Economic Growth: CM Yogi

Greater Noida, Sep 26 (KNN) Showcasing Uttar Pradesh's position as a powerhouse in India's Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the second edition of the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, highlighting the state's vast contribution to employment and economic growth.

Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi remarked, "Uttar Pradesh not only has the largest population in the country but also boasts the highest number of MSME units." With 96 lakh MSME units spread across 75 districts, the sector is second only to agriculture in employment generation within the state.

The Chief Minister emphasised that despite the challenges faced by MSMEs post-independence, including a lack of technological advancement and insufficient incentives, the sector has been revitalised under his administration through key initiatives.

Among these initiatives, the One District, One Product (ODOP) scheme was singled out as a game-changer for MSMEs. The CM noted, "ODOP became the harbinger of change for the MSME sector, focusing on promotion, branding, marketing, design, packaging, and technology."

The success of the scheme has resulted in Uttar Pradesh securing the highest number of Geographical Indication (GI) tags, with 75 products now recognised globally for their unique quality and origin.

Reflecting on the pandemic's impact, Yogi Adityanath praised the resilience of the state's workforce, many of whom returned to UP during the Covid-19 crisis.

"When 40 lakh workers returned home, we conducted a comprehensive skill mapping and facilitated job opportunities in relevant MSME units," he said. This reintegration of workers not only stabilised their families but also strengthened the state's economy.

Yogi also affirmed UP’s vital role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a USD 5 trillion economy, with a USD 1 trillion contribution expected from Uttar Pradesh.

"No major industrial investment can thrive without a robust MSME base, which plays a pivotal role in this transformation," he added.

Over 2,500 exhibitors and 350 foreign buyers are attending the trade show, underscoring the global interest in Uttar Pradesh’s entrepreneurial talent.

The CM expressed confidence that the event will highlight the state’s production capabilities, cultural diversity, and economic potential. He also extended his gratitude to Vietnam for participating as the partner country this year.

Prominent figures, including Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, UP Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta, and other state leaders, attended the inaugural event.
