Kolkata, Jul 25 (KNN) West Bengal IT, Finance, Commerce and Industry Minister, Amit Mitra has said that West Bengal will be projected among the top three destinations in terms of IT, ITeS and Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) by 2020.

Mitra said this during the ESDM conclave organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) here recently.

Although West Bengal’s share in the IT and ITeS’ revenue is just four per cent currently, plans are in the pipeline to increase its share substantially, as per official data.

In this regard, the state has taken all the required steps to promote IT, ITES and ESDM, Mitra said.

While significant focus will be given to semi-conductor design, telecom equipment and IT, systems and hardware segments, the state government will also provide subsidy to hardware manufacturers along with registration and stamp duty subsidies, employment generation substitution, help in applying for patents and also providing angel and venture funding.

According to the minister, the State is in the process of setting up 13 IT parks in districts such as Durgapur, Siliguri. Haldia, Malda, Kalyani, among others.  While eight of the IT parks are under construction, work on five others will begin soon.

In addition, the State is also planning to set up eight hardware clusters in Kolkata, Howrah, Durgapur, Kharagpur, Haldia and Siliguri (Brownfield projects), and in Naihati and Falta (Greenfield projects).   (KNN Bureau)
