The project of land allocation is being handled by the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC).   The state government has been developing sector specific and multi-product industrial parks in the state to provide a boost for rapid industrial growth.

Most of these industrial parks are located in Bankura (steel), Burdwan, Howrah (foundry, rubber, food, zari), Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, Paschim Medinipur and Purulia (steel).

The new industrial parks will be developed in sectors such as gems and jewellery, garments, light engineering, food processing, zari, multi-products manufacturing, steel, power, cement and plastic, official data said.

Entrepreneurs willing to set up industrial units at the different industrial parks can choose from various sizes ranging from two acres to 50 acres, their prices ranging from Rs 3,842 per square foot to Rs 175.76 lakh acre.

The Government of West Bengal has initiated time bound steps to modernize infrastructure facilities and also to create new clusters and growth centres.

Since infrastructure creation involves considerable investments, the state has welcomed private participation in this area and has already made considerable progress in laying the groundwork for state-of-the-art industrial facilities to attract entrepreneurs.

Further, there are a number of Intelligent Parks being set up in the state which is now the centre of action for IT and ITeS companies.

In addition, with a view to generating employment, the State Government recognizes the growth of SEZ in selected sectors. The GoWB has also initiated creation of industrial infrastructure in the form of Special Economic Zones which are specially delineated enclaves entitled to several fiscal concessions and incentives.

At the moment, there are five functional SEZs operating in the State - Falta SEZ ( multi product zone), Manikanchan at Saltlake (Gems and Jewellery), Wipro at Saltlake ( IT/ ITes), Dalmiya and Co Ltd at Bantala (IT/ ITes) and Unitech Hightech at Rajarhat(IT/ ITes).
