Kolkata, Feb 20 (KNN)  The Department of MSME and Textiles in West Bengal is planning to develop a project that while promoting community-led handicrafts and handloom preservation will also create a marketing hub of international standards for products made by MSMEs.

The marketing hub called Biswa Khudra Bazar (BKB) will be set up at Shantiniketan over an area of 100 acres.

In this context, the West Bengal Small Industries Development Corporation (WBSIDC) is in the process of preparing an architectural model and master plan for the hub and develop it into a community destination.

WBSIDC is also keen to develop a mega tourism hub at Banarhat, Jalpaiguri.  The hub will boast a convention centre, five and three star resorts, day centre for picnics, amusement park, budget resort, crafts village, hospitality management training institute and youth hostel among others.

WBSIDC was set up in 1961 for extending support and promotion of SSI in the state under the Department of Cottage and Small Scale Industries, Government of West Bengal. It helps SSI Units with well diversified activities of industrial and commercial estates all over the state.

Besides infrastructure support, WBSIDC extends marketing assistance to the SSI units, supply of raw materials and other promotional assistance to the SSI sector making a significant contribution to the economic growth and employment generation in West Bengal.  (KNN/ES)
