Chandigarh, Feb 28 (KNN) The Haryana government today announced plans to link the state electronically with the help of Wide Area Network. The mandate has been given to the state agency, Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (HARTRON).

The corporation wants to implement common IT infrastructure management system for state WAN and data centre.

Haryana is among the first states in the country to implement State Wide Area Network (SWAN) identified as one of core infrastructure projects under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP).

This network has been implemented by HARTRON and has been fully operational since November 2007. Under this network, state headquarter has been connected vertically with all the district headquarters and 126 Block/Sub Division/Tehsil/Sub Tehsil for providing facilities such as inter and intra date transfer/sharing, voice over internet protocol, video etc.

About 800 offices of various departments have been connected horizontally on this network and are using this network for running their applications and other day to day work.

NeGP takes a holistic view of e-Governance initiatives across the country, integrating them into a collective vision, a shared cause. Around this idea, a massive countrywide infrastructure reaching down to the remotest of villages is evolving, and large-scale digitization of records is taking place to enable easy, reliable access over the internet.

The ultimate objective is to bring public services closer home to citizens, as articulated in the vision statement of the plan.

In this context, HARTRON has invited bids from various firms to be service providers.   (KNN/ST)
