WB govt to set up clusters to develop muslin industry in 2019

New Delhi, Jan 2 (KNN) The Government of West Bengal has decided to set up cluster across the state to further develop muslin industry in the Year 2019, stated Finance and Industry Department of West Bengal.

Besides, state government will also hold discussions to provide export of muslin products and marketing platforms in the international market.

It has been stated in the statement that the efforts of the state government to make muslin popular through project muslin have been quite positive. 

Weavers associated with muslin industry are earning good returns, and muslin crafts is becoming popular not only in the Asia Peninsula but also in European countries. 

Around 21 general production centers have been opened in nine districts in the past, according to the statement issued by Department of Finance.

In addition, 63 muslin clusters have been set up in 14 districts - Bankura, Birbhum, Howrah, Malda, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Jhargram, Purulia, Kalimpong, East Medinipur and West Medinipur, the statement added.

As a result of this, increase in number of muslin growers and income has increased. Under 63 cluster, 39,583 artisans are working successfully.

The West Bengal Khadi and Village Industries Board (under the State Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Textiles Department), under which the muslin clusters and production centres operate, has opened three stores inside three big malls in Kolkata – South City, Quest and Star.

A club muslin outlet has been opened at the state government-owned Dakshinapan Shopping Complex in Dhakuria in Kolkata. These outlets at major shopping centres are also helping in achieving higher sales.
