West Bengal Govt to set up Silk Hub in Serampore
Kolkata, June 3 (KNN) The Bengal Government is planning to set up a Silk Hub in Serampore in Hooghly district in order to make it a major base for export and skill development of craftsmen.
The announced was made recently by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Similar to other innovative hubs which have opened up new horizons in the world of traditional crafts and trades, like the Mishti Hubs, Muslin Hub, etc., the Silk Hub is also expected to bring in new opportunities to silk craftsmen.
The hub would draw skilled craftsmen from across Bengal. It would enable sharing of skills and other ideas, including marketing ideas.
The Silk Hub would become a centre of innovation and is expected to become a major base for export of silk in the future.
The hub would provide a steady source of income for many families and also help in preserving their craftsmanship.
