West Bengal to develop apparel hub in Nungi, Maheshtala

Kolkata, June 22 (KNN) To boost the garment industry in West Bengal, the state government will establish an apparel hub on 10 acre plot at Nungi in the Maheshtala area.

It will have a built-up area of 12 lakh sq ft and will be set up under the aegis of MSME and textile department.

Residing in the neighbourhood of Nungi and in adjoining Metiabruz thousands of people work in the garments industry which is mostly operate in an unorganised manner.

Rajesh Pandey, Secretary of the MSME and textile department said, “This new apparel hub will accommodate around 30,000 people and will create over 1 lakh jobs. The investment will be to the tune of several lakh crores.”

For the project a develop-build-finance-operate-and-transfer (DBFOT) model has been adopted.

Thus, private operators will be operating the apparel hub. The state government is offering a parcel of land along with a boundary wall on lease for 99 years for developing the hub. The state government is going to select the interested private partner by this week. (KNN Bureau)
