UK to partner with Kolkata govt for electric mobility & green construction

New Delhi, July 4 (KNN) UK’s International Trade Minister Nigel Huddleston is visiting Kolkata on a three-day tour to enhance bilateral trade between the two.

During his visit to the state, Huddleston will announce a package of partnerships on electric mobility and green construction at a joint session with the Government of West Bengal.

As per reports, the minister will also announce a new project that will see the UK and the Government of West Bengal join hands to develop electric two-wheelers.

During his visit, UK’s trade minister will also visit a waste processing company in Kolkata using green methods to recycle construction waste into high quality, reusable sand. 

He will also facilitate the signing of a Memorandum of understanding between the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Government of West Bengal on skill development in sustainable and modern methods of construction. 

UK’s bilateral trade with India has already topped 36 billion pounds, supporting half a million jobs across both countries. As part of its ambition to double the bilateral trade by 2030, the UK is continuing to negotiate a trade deal with India.

Speaking about his vision for Kolkata, British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata, Nick Low said, “Our Prime Ministers are committed to double trade and investment and to safeguard our planet by building a sustainable future together in the 2030 Roadmap for India-UK Future Relations and my mission is to make that happen in Kolkata and across  West Bengal.”  (KNN Bureau)
