West Bengal Plans 25-Acre Entertainment & Technology Hub In New Town: CM Banerjee
Kolkata, May 15 (KNN) The West Bengal government has earmarked 25 acres in New Town for the development of a comprehensive entertainment, technology, and creativity hub, aiming to position the township as a premier cultural destination.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the initiative following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
The state's infrastructure development agency, Hidco, will implement the project through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
The proposed site is expected to be situated in proximity to Eco Park. The center will be named "Biswa Angan" in Bengali, with its official designation as the International Information Technology and Entertainment Park (IITEC).
The government additionally plans to develop a third convention center in Siliguri, complementing the existing facilities in New Town and Digha.
Chief Minister Banerjee also highlighted that fifteen industrial estates and 43 plots have been allocated for MSME investments.
She noted that West Bengal currently hosts 90 lakh MSMEs and more than 660 clusters, underscoring the state's commitment to fostering varied economic development initiatives.
In related development news, the Chief Minister disclosed that the state has received ten new investment proposals in steel and other industrial sectors, with a combined value of Rs 25,000 crore.
"We have land in Jagal Sundari Karmanagari in Raghunathpur, Durgapur, and Panagarh. The state has allotted 10 industrial plots to major industries with the total land allocation being 2,515 acres," she stated, projecting employment opportunities for approximately 70,000 individuals.
The government has further initiated plans to establish shopping malls in all 23 district headquarters, allocating one acre for each facility.
Land plots have already been approved for 11 districts, with the process ongoing for the remaining 12. These developments will include two dedicated floors for products manufactured by self-help groups.
