Western UP discoms to cut transmission losses

Noida, Feb 8 (KNN) The Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), a power distribution company for the Western Uttar Pradesh today unveiled its plan to bring down transmission losses and improve power supply to consumers in a host of districts in the region.

Under the initiative, the discom would be installing modern technology such as SCADA compatibility in its network in the districts of Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bijnor, Moradabad etc.

The initiative is a part of the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Program Scheme (R-APDRP) of the central government being implemented since the 10th five year plan.

However, some of the terms and conditions of the APDRP have been amended in the last five years.

The projects under Part-A and Part-B of R-APDRP are to be 100 per cent financed by Government of India loan and loan from financial institutes such as PFC/REC, the company said.

According to a World Bank report, India’s Electric power transmission and distribution losses in 2009-13 is over 20 per cent. (KNN Bureau)
