Amritsar, Aug 29 (KNN) In order to make Punjab based SMEs globally competitive via the internet, the Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO) in association with eBay, PayPal; Wool Industry EPC; and Shawls Club India is organizing a workshop on promoting exports through e-commerce here.

The objective of the workshop to be held on August-30, is to provide an opportunity to exporters to understand the exciting new sales channel of exports via e-commerce to reach out to global buyers.

“Technological advancements are taking place at much faster speed then earlier and SMEs must understand and use the latest technology available for enhancement of productivity and to maintain continuous growth in our businesses. The session will apprise on how e-commerce can help small and medium enterprises make use of the technological advancement in expanding their business to overseas market,” said FIEO CEO Ajay Sahai.

Development in the internet and web based technologies have removed distinctions between the traditional markets and the global electronic market places. E-Commerce, coupled with appropriate strategy can enable small and medium enterprises to compete with large and capital rich business houses, he added.

The workshop with an aim to promote retail exports via e-commerce will help SMEs in reaching out to 103 million global buyers based in 150 countries through a cost effective method of e-commerce via eBay and PayPal.

“Experts from eBay and PayPal will apprise the participants on transitioning smoothly from a sole offline business mode to an integrated model that incorporates end to end services right from listing Products on eBay, receiving payments through PayPal along with fulfilment service via leading logistics partners like FedEx, ICC worldwide,” FIEO said in a press release.

FIEO will also help its members with exclusive offers from eBay and PayPal like unlimited product listing for a period of six months which is otherwise chargeable, said the release.

Generally, the small and medium manufacturers in Punjab take the help of middlemen for export. E-commerce will help the manufacturers to directly reach out to the customers and cut down the cost on the middlemen, which in turn will make them more competitive.

Not a lot of manufacturers, according to Sahai, export directly.  Also, it is often the case that manufacturers from rural/backward areas make products with the potential for export but are not able to export directly due to lack of proper education.

“To empower them FIEO is also doing various capacity building programmes all across the country to appraise them about the procedures and mechanism involved in exports,” Sahai added. (KNN/SD)
