Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday urged the Indian industry to align with global standards to speed up the vision of Make in India.

Speaking at the ‘DPIIT-FICCI Partnership Forum on Public Procurement for Make in India’ here, Goyal asserted that quality of the final product cannot be compromised as it is the deciding factor of industry’s competitiveness.

''We want imports to be curb but we are not willing to produce quality goods. It really can't last longer. Whatever, the standards are made have to be adopted domestically and on imports. I would urge all of you to look at it very seriously,'' he said.

The Minister further ordered Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to instruct the concerned ministries that who doesn't support the effort on quality standard they shouldn't be protected from imports curbs, adding that ''if they are not happy to look at international standards, why should our consumers suffer?.''

The Minister also urged them to register their grievances with DPIIT so that solutions can be planned accordingly. Goyal appealed entrepreneurs and industrialists to study all the clauses mentioned in make in India scheme.

Later, the Minister informed that the government has identified a few champion sectors, like textiles, fisheries and IT, to expand and become a world leader in exports. He also underlined that the scale of production will play a very important role in remaining competitive in the global market as higher prices of the products made otherwise can keep India out of the market.

''The challenge is to ensure that the maximum procurements by different ministries are done through Government –Marketplace (GeM),'' said Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Som Prakash.
