Former DGFT and now the Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, Anup Wadhawan has said that Commonwealth is a major trading partner of India as common background makes it comfortable for both sides in dealing with each other.

He said in future there would be more focus pointedly to grow India’s relationship with the Commonwealth countries.

He was talking about the role of India’s Commonwealth SME Association (ICSA), launched earlier this year, in synergizing India’s trade with the Commonwealth countries.

ICSA is a joint initiative of industry body FISME and Commonwealth Secretariat, London, to provide a sustainable platform to the SMEs in the Lesser Developed Countries (LDCs) and the region in order to link them to the Global Value Chain.

Wadhawan said this in an interview to KNN on the side-lines of a Seminar organized by the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, recently here.

The seminar on Brexit: Prospects of India – UK FTA was jointly organized by the Trade Competitiveness Section, Commonwealth Secretariat and the Centre for WTO Studies, IIFT in partnership with FICCI and FISME.

Wadhawan also spoke about the impact on trade with UK post Brexit. (Watch His Full Interview)
