If we have fragmented MSMEs, they will be inefficient: Kiran Mazumdar Shaw

Foreign Trade Agreements (FTAs) are an important area to be focussed on and Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is going to be a very important trade partnership for India, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairman and Managing Director of Biocon Limited said. While talking to media at the side-lines of the Board of Trade Meet, held in the national capital on Wednesday, Shaw pressed for the need to understand that how the Indian industry can engage best in TPP evaluation. “FTAs are an important area to be focused on. TPP is going to be a very important trade partnership. We must understand how we are going to engage in TPP evaluation,” Shaw, who is also the Chairperson of IIM Bangalore, said. On the issues faced by MSME exporters, she said, “MSME sector has to be tackled through clusters. If we have fragmented MSMEs, they will be inefficient. So I think bringing MSME clusters will actually make them more efficient. You need that kind of critical mass which can only be achieved through clusters.” Shaw said that the global recession had an impact on many sectors but still there are sectors that have done well and one such sector is pharmaceutical
