Ministry of Labour is moving forward on a path of development: Gangwar

Ministry of Labour is working in a way that the problems are minimized and the work done towards development is maximized, said Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State for Labour and Employment.

He was speaking at 7th National Conference on “Excellence in Workplace safety and Occupational Health”.

“The Ministry of Labor is moving forward on a path of development," he said.

According to the changing of World’s scenario, 38 labour laws that were being followed by the ministry needs to be transformed. So, the labour laws have been coded in 4 categories- Code of wages, Code of social security, Industrial relation code and Code of occupational safety and health, said Gangwar.

According to him, in our country approximately 6 crore laborers are working in organized sector and are availing the benefits of ESIC and provident fund.

Whereas, there are 40 crore laborers working in unorganized sectors and are not getting any benefits, he said.

The Ministry is working on bringing the 40crore laborers in the origin where even they can avail the benefits and improve their standards of living said Gangwar.

He said that in last 2 years, 1crore laborers have been connected to ESIC and 1crore with EPFC.

Under Pradhan Mantri rojgar protsahan scheme, entire 12% provident fund given by employees is now given by the Indian government, he mentioned. In this scheme more than 87,000 organization’s 72lakh employees are connected to provident fund. Central government till now has given 1744crore rupees under this scheme.

Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Scheme and Pradhan Mantri suraksha bima scheme has been started for the benefit of laborers working under unorganized sector, he said. These schemes will be free of cost for the laborers.

He highlighted, “Till now 3crore laborers have already been connected free of cost with these schemes.”

Workers of Anganwadi and Ashawadi are also being benefited as their incentives are increased, Gangwar said.

There were many more benefits and schemes on which minister of state for labor and employment spoke. It was overall an informative session to acknowledge the developments of the ministry.
