The apex industry body for MSME associations, FISME, has pressed upon the need to connect the Indian MSME exporters with the global value chain increase India’s share in the global exports. FISME, which is a part of 70 member Board of Trade (BOT), participated in the meeting held here today. In the meeting, headed by Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, FISME President Dr Sangam Kurade suggested measures to boost declining export from the sector. Dr Kurade, who himself in an MSME exporter from the food sector, said that few sectors like food, agri, handicrafts and textiles are doing good and the sectors which are lagging behind needs a boost. He highlighted that barely 1 to 2 per cent of MSMEs that export are exporting presently. FISME has also pressed for a need to create Niryat Bandhu, a platform to facilitate MSMEs raise their concern with regards to exports. Dr Kurade, while interacting with the media post meeting, said the MSMEs are suffering partially due to global recession and partially due to the polices of last 1 -2 years which has failed to encourage the sector. “…as a result hardly one to two percent of total MSMEs are into exports. They are not getting a chance to move forward,” he said. As per the report of World Bank on ease of doing business, he pointed that there has been an increase only in two points - one is nine percent increase in getting license and 20 percent raise in electricity. ‘Credit is on minus six per cent as per the World Bank report. Then how can MSMEs move forward if they are not getting credit,” he said. (KNN Bureau)
