While MSMEs must adopt energy efficient methods, challenges for the sector can’t be overlooked: Giriraj Singh

Eyeing at exploring the various dimensions related to energy management among the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) of the country, a national level summit is being organized in the national capital. Union Minister for MSME Giriraj Singh inaugurated the two-day National Summit on Energy Efficiency in MSMEs.

MSME Minister Giriraj Singh during the inaugural event said that the Indian MSMEs at present are facing various challenges when it comes to ensuring energy efficiency.

Explaining further the Minister said that while there is huge expectation that the MSMEs must adopt newer efficient methods, the challenges aren’t taken into consideration.

“The micro and small units are not capable of upgrading the technology themselves, it is imperative to handhold the MSMEs both technologically as well as financially in order to achieve the set targets and become sustainable” the Minister said.

Citing challenges, the Minister said that a prime concern before the country today is the problem of transmission loss.

The Minister further said that it is not just the industry that counts for poor energy consumption patterns but even the corporates as well as the domestic households must be mindful towards adopting efficient methods.

At the inaugural event, a knowledge sharing platform SAMEEEKSHA was re-launched as a collaborative platform that pools and shares the knowledge and experiences of various organizations and institutions – Indian and international, public and private – that are engaged in promoting energy efficiency in the Indian MSME sector.

Also the country head of UNIDO Rene Van Berkel present during the inaugural ceremony highlighted the need to handhold MSMEs in moving towards newer methods and at the same time maintaining the quality of the product and staying competitive in the global market.

Officials from TERI, Ministry of Power, UNIDO, Swiss Embassy and  MSME Ministry were present during the event.

Also representatives from different MSME associations including the Federation of Indian Micro and Small & Medium Enterprises (FISME) will participate in the two day summit

The Summit is being organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in collaboration with Ministry of Power, Ministry of MSME, Embassy of Switzerland, TERI and UNIDO in the national capital. (KNN/DA)
