Free treatment of road accident victims on Gurgaon-Jaipur NH

The MoU was signed between Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) with ICICI Lombard to launch for executing the project on ‘zero administrative expenses’ basis. The ministry will spend Rs 30 lakh as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), an official statement said.
ICICI will now start the process of signing MoUs with hospitals, and take other necessary steps.
About 1.4 lakh persons die in road accidents every year. The pilot project is effort on the part of MoRTH to bring down graph of fatalities in road accidents.
Ministry has created a corpus of Rs 20 crore for providing cashless treatment to the road accident victims on the identified stretch at the empanelled hospitals for the first 48 hours, subject to a ceiling of Rs 30,000.
The panel of hospitals will include not only government hospitals, but also private hospitals having requisite facilities.
The pilot project is being launched to gain data and experience for rolling out a pan-India scheme aimed at providing immediate medical attention to the accident victims.
In order to make the Project successful, the ministry will enrol number of volunteers on the identified stretch of NH-8 to impart training in first-aid and trauma care. It will provide five new advance lifesaving ambulances to supplement the existing fleet of ambulances. (KNN)
