New Delhi, Sept 19 (KNN) In order to bring in more clarity of different dimensions including pricing, the medical technology industry has reached out to the government, seeking framework for sub-categorizing and sub-sectoring of the medical devices on the manufacturing complexity involved in the production.

Medical Technology Association of India (MTaI) in a press statement protested that the medical technology industry is far from appreciation. It further said despite its important role in the overall health sector of the country, not much has been done with reference to the policy work.

A structured categorization is important to equip the sector with clarity in order to encourage the industry, the association said.

Also the industry has demanded a phase wise approach to the flagship Make in India project of the government so that devices could be made locally in the short run.

Citing the problems of the sector, MTaI further said that the government should focus on brining in blueprint to address the gaps of the sector.

Promotion of ease of doing business, time-bound approach in licensing, better financial handholding, and infrastructure are certain key areas that the government must consider, MTaI added. (KNN/DA)
