Cutting of carpets meant for exports damages it, there should be some other mechanism for price verification, composition: Smriti Irani

New Delhi, Feb 16 (KNN) Taking the long pending demand of the carpet exporters to the concerned officials, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani met the Central Board of Excise & Customs Chairman Najeeb Shah, Director (Drawback) Dinesh Gupta.

She discussed the issue raised by carpet exporters for damaging carpets by the Port Authorities for price determination, composition etc meant for exports, according to a media report tweeted by Irani.

Irani said due to cutting of carpets, the carpets are damaged. The exporters then have to incur heavy losses and it is a setback for them in exports.

CBEC Chief Najeeb Shah assured the Textile Minister that a mechanism in consultation with the Textiles Ministry can be worked out for price verification and composition etc. so that cutting of the carpets meant for exports shall be avoided.

Post meeting, Irani said for price determination and composition etc. there shall be no cutting of the carpets meant for exports and the port authorities can seek assistance of the Office of the Textiles Committee, Mumbai and the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology.

Other senior officials from the Ministry as well as CBEC were present in the meeting. (KNN Bureau)
