Imperative to consider practical concerns for smooth E Way Bill mechanism: AIMTC

New Delhi, Feb 28 (KNN) With the GST body likely to implement the E-Way bill across country from April 1 on the recommendation made by the Group of Ministers (GoM), the transporters have raised that for a smooth mechanism, it is important to factor practical concerns including the issue of part-load as well as timeline revision.

Talking to KNN, Naveen Gupta, Secretary General of All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) said that the operational part of the mechanism is a real problem along with the technical glitches.

Citing concerns, Gupta said the timeline prescribed for the movement of goods is still not practical and the authority must consider that transportation involves different steps including consolidation and segregation that consumes time.

He further raised that with different states already functioning with the E-Way bill, there have been reports of harassment and inspector raj, something that the bill promised to keep a check on.

Also the concern of the transporter with regard to part load is yet to be addressed by the GST authority, Gupta added”.

“The transporters are not very optimistic about the rollout since the practical concerns have not yet been acknowledged nor addressed so far”, he added.

E Way Bill is an electronically generated document required to be generated for the movement of goods of value more than Rs 50,000 between states. (KNN/ DA)
