New scheme for textile sector a thumbs up, in line with requests in pre-budget memorandum: TEA

New Delhi, Dec 22 (KNN) With the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi giving the green signal to the new scheme for skill development scheme, textile body Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) has welcomed the new policy saying it is to benefit the sector.

The new scheme is to have an allocation of over 1,300 crore, targeting towards jobs in the organised textile and related sectors.

Commenting over the newly passed policy, TEA in a press statements said that the outlay comes in line with the concerns that were being raised by the different stakeholders of the sector.

It further said that imparting skills to new workers as well as up skilling stands as need of the hour for the textile sector that has a fair share of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

It is likely to add to the country’s capacity in standing the global competition, it added.

The Association further said that the initial assessment of the scheme suggests that the government has very well taken into account the different pointers it had submitted earlier as a part of the pre-budget memorandum to the finance ministry.

Earlier, talking to KNN over the recent development, , Arvind Sinha, President of the Textile Association said that the scheme on one hands look encouraging for the sector, there are doubts over how well would it be implemented. (KNN/DA)
