NHAI announces online sale of FASTags, offline sale through Common Services Centres

New Delhi, Aug 17 (KNN) In order to facilitate movement of logistics along roadways in the country, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in consultation with the Reserve Bank and National Payment Corporation of India, has announced online sale of FASTags.

FASTag , the reloadable tag which enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets the transport truck pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the payment of tolls, can now be purchased online from Issuer Banks websites. These tags can also be ordered through the NHAI and IHMCL websites.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in a press statement said that the ease access to the FASTags will help ease movement of goods along the roadways in the country.

The Ministry also announced the sale of FASTags through the Common Services Centres (CSC) that will be set up near toll plazas.

For the functioning of FASTags, it requires Hybrid ETC system that has the sensors to read the RFID FASTags. The Ministry has announced that at least one lane on all hybrid lanes shall be dedicated for the vehicles with FASTags.

The work for installing the Hybrid system is in progress and is likely to be operational from September this year. (KNN/ DA)
