Ports to install radiation portal monitors and scanners by Oct 31 for importing unshredded metallic scrap
New Delhi, Mar 29 (KNN) The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has extended the period of installation and operationalisation of Radiation Portal Monitors and Container Scanner in the designated ports up-to October 31, 2018.
Earlier, the existing designated seaports namely Chennai, Coachin, Ennore, JNPT, Kandla, Mormugao, Mumbai, New Manglore, Paragrapgdip, Tuticorin, Vishakapatnam, Pipava, Mundra and Kolkatta were allowed to import un-shredded scrap till 31st March, 2018 by which time they were required to install and operatinalize Radiation Portal Monitors and Container Scanner.
Such seaports which fail to meet the deadline will be derecognized for the purpose of import of un-shredded metallic scrap w.e.f 1/4/2018, said DGFT.
Now, as per the amended rule the existing designated seaports namely Chennai, Coachin, Ennore, JNPT, Kandla, Mormugao, Mumbai, New Manglore, Paragrapgdip, Tuticorin, Vishakapatnam, Pipava, Mundra and Kolkatta will be allowed to import un-shredded scrap till 31st October, 2018.
However, they will be required to install and operatinalize Radiation Portal Monitors and Container Scanner up-to October 31, 2018.
If these seaports fail to meet the deadline will be derecognized for the purpose of import of un-shredded metallic scrap w.e.f 1/11/2018.
