AICTE to revise syllabus, also planning to collaborate with industry, MSME Ministry

New Delhi, May 9 (KNN) All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is considering revising the syllabus of technical courses of colleges and universities in the country. This is being done with an aim to equip the students with better skills and abilities that could make them more employable.

AICTE chairman MP Poonia in a press interview informed that the new course will be highly technical and industry oriented. He also said that at present the technical colleges and schools lack uniformity, the new syllabus aims to address this concern by making the curriculum uniform throughout the country.

The Chairman informed that the new syllabus can be expected to roll out from 1st of July.

Also the AICTE plans to collaborate with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises(MSME) to facilitate exposure as under the revised syllabus there would be two months mandatory training for the students.

The AICTE is further planning to undertake steps along similar lines for the teachers by providing them training programs so that the new syllabus can be taught well to the students.

The move comes in the background of the study conducted by Aspiring Minds. In the report released by the institute last year, there were statistics that said around 80 per cent of the engineering graduates in the country fall short of skills and are unemployable. (KNN/ DA)
