SASEC Road Connectivity Program will open opportunities for NE MSMEs

New Delhi, July 13 (KNN) The Cabinet’s nod for upgradation of the Imphal-Moreh section of the road route NH-39 in Manipur, might open up new market for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the region.

The completion of the route is being seen as a big opportunity for the traditional bamboo and wood based manufacturing units. Also hand-woven textile units, farm implements and tools and stationary manufacturing units that operate in the region will be able to find fresh markets.

The South Asian Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) road connectivity investment program is a part of the Asian Development Banks’s (ADB) loan assistance program that aims at building road infrastructure in countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and India with an aim to facilitate connectivity between these nations.

The program also falls in line with the ‘Look East’ policy of the Indian government to facilitate trade link with South East Asia. The project is expected to increase the traffic of exports between India and the adjoining nations as the average time taken for transportation will be reduced by 40 per cent with the successful implementation of this project. (KNN/ DA)
