Yogi Adityanath's UP State Budget 2018 fail to woo MSME sector

Lucknow, Feb 17 (KNN) The Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government proposed its first state budget yesterday laying emphasis on infrastructure, but the industry especially the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that were expecting some announcement were left to disappointment.

Talking to KNN, Sunil Vaish, President of MSME body Indian Industries Association (IIA) said that the budget comes as a good document if seen from infrastructure development point of view, but fails to make any special case for industry, especially the MSMEs.

"While emphasis on infrastructure is a big welcome, there is certain level of disappointment among the industries since we were expecting some big announcements", Vaish said.

Commenting on the increased budgetary allocation on infrastructure, Vaish said this is likely to have a positive ripple effect on the industries as well.

"Once the backward regions such as Poorvanchal and Bundelkhand gets good infrastructure, the industry too will benefit from the same", he added.

Now that the budget presentation did not make any big announcements for the industries, the industry is eyeing at the upcoming UP Investors summit for the possible announcements.

"It could be that the government has kept some proposals for the industries to be made during the upcoming summit, the industry is looking at the event with a lot of hope", he added.

On Friday, the Yogi Adityanath led UP government proposed its first budget with prime focus on agriculture and infrastructure. The budget comes ahead of the mega event UP Investors Summit.

The upcoming UP Investors Summit is to be inaugurated on February 21 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 11 key areas are being identified for investments namely civil aviation, IT-enabled services, dairy, electronics manufacturing, tourism, MSME, infrastructure, renewable energy, films, handloom/textile, and agro/food processing. (KNN/DA)
