Piyush Goyal to chair Board of Trade meet to meet on 2nd Dec

New Delhi, Nov 26 (KNN) The reconstituted Board of Trade- the apex forum to advise the government on issues related to foreign trade, is being convened virtually on 2nd Dec 2020.

Commerce and industry Minister Piyush Goyal is to chair the meeting to steer the dialogue with stakeholders slated to be focused on Foreign Trade Policy.

The Board of Trade is housed in the Department of Commerce and comprises senior officials of major Union economic ministries, representatives of the States, prominent national chambers including CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, FIEO, FISME and export promotion councils.

The meeting has assumed importance in view of Government’s flagship programmes like Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.

Experts are of the opinion that to revive the COVID battered Indian economy and to enhance share of manufacturing to 25 per cent in GDP, exports must increase by 15~20 per cent consistently.

The Board may review export performance of various sectors, identify constraints and suggest industry specific measures to optimize exports.

Specific recommendations could also be used for the forthcoming Union Budget for 2021-22.
