WPI Inflation Accelerates To 9.87% In June As Food, Metals Costs Rise

New Delhi, Jul 15 (KNN) The annual wholesale price inflation (WPI) accelerated to 9.87 percent in June 2026 from 9.68 percent in May, driven mainly by higher prices of mineral oils, food articles, basic metals, and chemicals, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Wholesale Inflation Rises In June

The All Commodities WPI stood at 110.2 in June, up from 109.9 in May.

Among major categories, inflation for Primary Articles rose to 7.0 percent from 4.99 percent, while fuel and power inflation eased to 27.41 percent from 30.33 percent. Inflation in Manufactured Products remained unchanged at 7.48 percent.

The WPI Food Index, which combines food articles and manufactured food products, increased to 6.14 percent in June from 4.49 percent in May, indicating a pickup in food price pressures.

Mineral Oils, Food, Metals Drive Price Rise

The ministry said mineral oils (including petroleum products), food articles, manufacture of basic metals, and chemicals and chemical products were the key contributors to wholesale inflation during the month.

The provisional WPI inflation for April 2026 has been revised upward to 8.36 percent from the earlier estimate of 8.26 percent, following the finalisation of data.

Producer Price Indices Show Upward Movement

On producer prices, the Output Producer Price Index (Output PPI) for all commodities rose to 109.9 in June from 109.6 in May. Sector-wise indices stood at 114.1 for Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing, 121.5 for Mining and Quarrying, 109.2 for Manufactured Products, and 92.0 for Electricity.

The ministry also said the trial Input PPI for the manufacturing sector stood at 107.1 in June on a provisional basis. The April 2026 Input PPI has been revised to 104.2 from the provisional estimate of 104.9.

Response Rate Improves For Final Data
