Exports lose momentum in Feb; down 3.67%

New Delhi, Mar 11 (KNN)  India's exports lost steam as the shipments declined by 3.67 per cent year-on-year to USD 25.68 billion in February, 2014 while imports marked by slowdown fell sharply by over 17 per cent to  USD  33.81 billion . The merchandise exports sector has a fair amount of MSME presence.

The cumulative value of exports for the period April-February 2013 -14 was USD 282.77 billion as against USD 269.85 billion registering a growth of 4.79 per cent in dollar terms over the same period last year, official data said.
 
Imports during February, 2014 were valued at USD 33.81 billion representing a negative growth of 17.09 per cent over the level of imports valued at USD 40.79 billion in February, 2013.

Cumulative value of imports for the period April-February, 2013-14 was USD 41.08 billion as against USD 449.78 billion registering a negative growth of 8.65 per cent over the same period last year.

The trade deficit for April-February, 2013-14 was estimated at USD 128.08 billion which was lower than the deficit of USD 179.92 billion during April-February, 2012-13.

The trade deficit has come down to USD 8.1 billion in February from USD 14.1 billion in the same month last year. (KNN/SD)
