Income Tax offices to display citizen charter

New Delhi, May 10 (KNN) In the backdrop of increasing public pressure on governance, the Directorate of Income Tax wants is working on the Citizen’s Charter for its various offices all over the country.

Some of the key services that the Income Tax Department wants to deliver are - Issue of refund along with interest under section 143(1) of the IT Act within six months in case of electronically filed returns; and within 9 months in case of other returns.
 
The main objectives behind preparing the charter are - to formulate progressive tax policies; make compliance easy; to be accountable and transparent; and to deliver quality services. The department will be highlighting the charter through posters.

It will send as many as 29400 posters of Citizen’s Charter to the 47 offices of the Income Tax Department. 
 
In this context, the Directorate of Income Tax has already invited bid for printing and distribution of posters of Citizen’s Charter.
 
The IT Department wants the redressal of grievances within two months from the end of the month of their receipt; decision on application for no deduction of tax or deduction of tax at lower rate within one month; and issue of Tax Clearance Certificate under section 230 of the IT Act within 3 working days from the date of receipt of application etc.
 
This Charter was issued on April 29 for which feedback has been taken from stakeholders. The charter is reviewed after three years. (KNN Bureau)
