Signs of dip in GST revenue, tax office to search for defaulters

New Delhi, Dec 26 (KNN) With the signs of revenue under Goods and Services Tax (GST) falling, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) is looking forward to inspect the non-filers and get them under the tax net.

Vanaja N Sarna, Chairperson at Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) recently said that the tax officials must ensure non-filers of GSTR-3B to be brought under the tax system and are made to file the returns.

Tax needs to be paid or if not, nil tax liability is to be claimed while filing the GSTR-3B.

The data from July-October suggests that out of 95 lakh taxpayers registered with the official GST portal, only 60 lakh of have done the filing.

Also with regard to the reports surfacing over the tax collection, the 90,000 crore tax collection in the July-September period fell to 83,000 crores in October hinting at dip in the overall revenue. (KNN/ DA)
