Chennai, Sept 24 (KNN)  Food outlets looking to make thin, crispy dosa or uthapam in a matter of minutes have an ideal solution in DosaMatic, a table-top dosa making machine from Mukunda Foods.

It is the first of its kind dosa maker, introduced by Chennai based Mukunda Food Pvt Ltd, which plans to set a trend of Indian Fast Foods in the global market.

It is also a successful example of an incubated company which is into manufacturing the world’s first automatic table top dosa making machine specifically designed for the commercial foodservice industry.

Approximately the size of a microwave oven, DosaMatic is the first product of Mukunda Foods; and it takes less than a minute to make a dosa – be it thick, thin, crispy, an uthapam or kal dosa.

Having graduated from the IAN Incubator Mukunda Foods has now raised investment and now has its own manufacturing plant and R&D team.

On September 12, 2013, Indian Angel Network (IAN), India's first and Asia's largest angel network announced its investment in Mukunda Foods that designs and develops automated food equipment for use in the Indian food retail segment.

The driving force behind the company are Eshwar K Vikas, and Sudeep, both engineering students of SRM University in Chennai who co-founded Mukunda Foods in May 2012, while still in college and developed products to automize Indian food.  Sudarshan Lodha joined them later to drive sales and marketing.

The student entrepreneurs then got their dosa printer patented and received hundreds of demo enquiries from a hundred different reputed hotels.  Thus far, Eshwar has spent over Rs 6 lakh on his DosaMatic, using his earnings from internships.

An IAN Incubatee company, Mukunda Foods is now just a little over a year.  IAN mentor and investor Hari Balasubramaniam helped them strategize the company to make it an investable business. The IAN incubator efforts and focused guidance morphed the venture with a sharp niche in the value chain, focused on a high growth market and, with the passion and execution focus of the founder ensured Mukunda Foods raised investments.

According to Balasubramaniam, "Mukunda Foods addresses a relevant problem faced in the food retail industry. The Food industry is an ever growing and dynamic industry that is open to innovation to help reduce production costs. Innovations and evolutionary equipment like that by Mukunda Foods would surely make an entry in to the marketing budgets of food retailers."

Of the support they received, Director of Sales & Marketing of Mukunda Foods, Sudarshan Lodha said, "We did not have to pay any money to IAN, there was only an equity portion given to them for incubating.”

“We started manufacturing recently and we are even planning to export our products,” Sudarshan told KNN.

"Mukunda Foods is a promising venture and we believe in the team and their abilities to make it a success. DosaMatic will create a niche for itself in retail as well as in the domestic space in the near future," said P Gopinath from IAN.

In a country which witnesses a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem and a surge in the manufacturing space, Mukunda Foods is an example of a successful venture progressing from the IAN Incubator and raising funds. Committed to helping the innovative manufacturing start-ups, IAN works closely with the start-ups and seeds early stage entrepreneurs during their initial stages.

Mukunda Foods has also won several awards such as the TATA First Dot Championship award. (KNN/SD)
