Indian Salon Congress to showcase the business of salon & spa

New Delhi, Feb 6 (KNN)  The beauty business has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade, diversifying in services offered to include specialised treatments for skin, hair, nails, anti-aging and spas.
 
While the US salon and spa service industry is estimated to be USD 35 billion annually, the retail beauty and cosmetics market in India is currently estimated at USD 950 million and is pegged at USD 2.68 billion by the year 2020.

According to official data, over the last five years cosmetic products have seen a growth of 60 per cent; salons 35 per cent; and cosmetic treatments 5 per cent.  Currently, the country has about 10 lakh salons and the number is constantly growing. 

As far as salon goers are concerned, most of them spend anything from Rs 200 to Rs 1000 per month on basic grooming and hair care.  Needless to say, women contribute to over 85 per of the salon industry revenue while men’s hair is the next wave to hit the industry.

Going by the current trend, the Spa and body treatment segment is estimated to grow approximately USD 772 million over the next five to eight years.  Significantly, a basic salon can be started with light to moderate capital.

It is to showcase the business of salons and spas, the Indian Salon Congress 2014 is being held in Surajkund on February-11.   The event would focus on everything from starting a salon business to providing valuable insights into how to add efficiency to salon operations by rejuvenating salon offerings and adding optimum level of bespoke service needed to attract and retain clients.
 
The agenda will also give financial and practical models and examines the opportunities and challenges facing the industry.
 
The event would comprise of a conference, an exhibition and an award ceremony.  It is the country’s largest B2B convention to create trade, networking and growth opportunity in the salon and spa sector.
 
Participants would be able to access more than 100 international products and suppliers, network with salon and spa experts, peers and develop business contacts.  The event would culminate with an awards ceremony during which awards that acknowledge excellence of care, service and standards will be given to inspire salon and spa owners around the country.
 
Speakers during the event include – Secretary, Ministry of MSME, Madhav Lal, Founder and MD of Naturals Salons, C K Kumaravel, Founder and Chairperson, Blossom Kochhar, among others.
 
Key takeaways from the event are - develop insights into the personal care market and trend spotting; Developing, Engineering and Designing the right salon experience; map consumption trends and build wide consumer base; attitudes towards retail selling from two essential perspectives: the stylist and the consumer; tackling trained personnel shortfall- training to maintain service standards, etc.
