Indian Travellers Can Now Use UPI In Cambodia via KHQR Network

New Delhi, Jun 2 (KNN) Indian travellers can now make digital payments in Cambodia using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), following a partnership between NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and ACLEDA Bank Plc.

The facility has been enabled through KHQR, Cambodia’s national QR code system, allowing Indian users to make payments by scanning QR codes at over 4.5 million merchant outlets across the country.

Ritesh Shukla, MD & CEO, NPCI International, said, “This collaboration not only strengthens real-time payment connectivity between our two ecosystems but also lays the groundwork for deeper tourism and commercial engagement.”

Cross-Border Payment Linkage

The launch marks the first phase of a cross-border QR payment linkage between India and Cambodia. The initiative was formally introduced at a ceremony in Phnom Penh, attended by officials from the National Bank of Cambodia and the Reserve Bank of India.

Under this arrangement, Indian travellers can use their UPI-enabled mobile applications to make secure, real-time payments at a wide range of locations, including tourist sites, restaurants and retail stores.

Dr. In Channy, President & Group Managing Director, noted, "ACLEDA Bank Plc. is proud to launch Phase 1 of our cross-border interoperability initiative, enabling Indian travellers to execute secure digital transactions via UPI-enabled applications across our extensive KHQR merchant network.”

Two-Way Payment System Planned

In the next phase, Cambodian visitors to India will also be able to use their domestic payment applications at UPI-enabled merchant locations, creating a two-way interoperable payment system between the two countries.

Benefits for Businesses and Travellers

The initiative is expected to improve convenience for travellers while reducing reliance on cash. Cambodian merchants are likely to benefit from access to a large base of Indian consumers, along with improved efficiency in payment processing and cash management.
