On the other hand, Director General and CEO of FIEO, Ajay Sahai yesterday said while addressing the event that the bilateral trade between India and Afghanistan has only witnessed modest growth in the last 4 years and there is urgent need to diversify the exports and imports between the two countries.
Indian exports are dominated by man-made filament apparels, pharmaceuticals, Gems and Jewellery, tobacco, etc which accounts for over 80 per cent of India’s exports while dry-fruits, lac including gum resin contribute to 95 per cent of imports from Afghanistan.
He stressed the need to take the benefit of Preferential Free Trade Agreement signed between India and Afghanistan in 2003. (KNN/SD)
