New Delhi, Sept 20 (KNN)  The Indian Board of Alternative Medicines (IBAM) wants India and China to cooperate for the promotion of traditional healing systems such as yoga-ayurveda and acupuncture-traditional herbal medicine.

In this regard, the Board had submitted a proposal for MOU between the two countries to the Prime Minister of India, calling for entering into a bilateral agreement during the visit of President of China to India for cross-promotion of traditional systems of healing, a press release said.

Indian Board of Alternative Medicines (government registered) is the largest Institution in the country for complementary medicine working for the promotion and propagation of the various streams of complementary and alternative medicine not only in India but throughout the world.

On the need for such an agreement, “Among the many gifts that India and China have given to the world, Yoga-Ayurveda originated in India and Acupuncture and Traditional Herbal Medicine originated from China, both with roots over 5000 years old, are perhaps the most important and relevant ones for meeting the critical needs of our society today,” it said.

IBAM’s appeal has been made on behalf of the thousands of students and practitioners of complementary medicine and the entire holistic community.  Such an MOU “would lead to a bilateral promotion of the over 5000 year old ancient systems of healing and a monumental health benefit to the large populations of the two nations,” it said.

According to the Board, the World Health Organization (WHO) has also undertaken the planning and execution of policies for mainstreaming of traditional medicines (TRM) of respective countries as its priority agenda of operations.

IBAM with its vast experience of over 22 years in the field of complementary medicine and having all the necessary infrastructure required for the facilitation of the establishment of these Centres including Faculty, Practitioners, Books, etc. available at its disposal, can play a pivotal role in assisting the Indian Government in the promotion of Yoga-Ayurveda in China as well as contribute to the Centre-Establishment process by the Chinese Government in India, it said.  (KNN/ES)
