To be held on the sidelines of the Ninth WTO Ministerial Conference, the symposium will be held from December 3-5 in Bali, Indonesia.

Sessions, organised by a wide array of international organisations, will address the most pressing contemporary trade and sustainable development issues, which will be categorised under these three thematic streams, namely, environment and natural resources; international trade governance and sustainable development; and trade and economic development.

A special session titled ‘The Future of Aid for Trade at the WTO’ will be held on December-4 jointly organized by the South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), the Commonwealth Secretariat and Overseas Development Institute (ODI).

The objectives of the meeting are – to discuss the future of Aid for Trade at the WTO in a rapidly changing trade and finance landscape.  It will specifically address how the Aid for Trade initiative can be reinvigorated so it responds to the changes in a manner that strengthens the WTO in years to come.

The session to be moderated by Dirk Willem te VELDE of the Investment and Growth Programme, Overseas Development Institute (ODI) will also dwell on how aid for trade can continue to support LDCs and be an effective tool for developing value chains.
