New Delhi, Jun 24 (KNN)  India has extended the ban on import of milk and its products from China for another year till June 2015, as the country has witnessed increase in milk production in 2013-14.

"Prohibition on import of milk and milk products (including chocolates and chocolate products and candies/ confectionery/ food preparations with milk or milk solids as an ingredient) from China is extended for one more year, i.e, till  June 23, 2015 or until further orders, whichever is earlier,"  a notification by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said .

New Delhi had first banned imports from China of milk and milk items in September 2008 citing presence of harmful melamine, which is used for making plastics and fertiliser.

India’s milk production had increased by six per cent to about 140 million tonnes in 2013-14 as the country remains the world's largest producer and consumer of milk.  (KNN/PC)
