Bengal Global Business Summit 2025: A Catalyst For Indo-Bhutan Collaboration

Kolkata, Feb 6 (KNN) The 8th Bengal Global Business Summit 2025, currently underway in Kolkata from February 5-6, has emerged as a significant platform for strengthening bilateral relations between India and Bhutan, with Bhutanese Minister Younten Phuntsho highlighting key areas for enhanced collaboration between the two nations.

In his address to the summit, Minister Phuntsho outlined several strategic sectors for potential partnership, including wellness tourism, connectivity infrastructure, agriculture, agro-processing, and renewable energy.

His remarks underscored Bhutan's commitment to deepening economic ties with India, particularly through the development of sustainable industries that align with both countries' development goals.

The summit showcases West Bengal's growing economic prominence, with the state's Gross State Domestic Product projected to reach INR 18.79 lakh crores for the fiscal year 2024-25.

As the largest economy in Eastern India and the country's fourth-largest state in terms of Net Value Added, West Bengal has established itself as a crucial hub for diverse industries, including manufacturing, information technology, cement production, leather processing, iron and steel manufacturing, and textile development.

The strengthening of India-Bhutan relations was further exemplified by the recent visit of Bhutan's King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to India.

At the special invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the King attended the Maha Kumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh, where he was received by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The royal visit included participation in spiritual activities and diplomatic discussions, reinforcing the deep-rooted cultural and political ties between the two nations.

The Bengal Global Business Summit continues to serve as a vital platform for fostering economic collaboration, bringing together industry leaders and policymakers to explore investment opportunities.

West Bengal's strategic location, coupled with effective government policies and an expanding industrial sector, positions the state as an attractive destination for both domestic and international investment, particularly in strengthening Indo-Bhutanese economic cooperation.
