Budget 2019: Fin Min says NRI with Indian passports need not wait for 180 days to get Aadhaar cards

New Delhi, July 5 (KNN) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has proposed to issue Aadhar cards to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) having Indian passports after they arrive in India without waiting for mandatory 180 days.

Earlier it used to take 180 days for NRI to get Aadhaar card.

This announcement comes as a major relief for NRIs as the proposal will help them get Aadhaar easily.

In her maiden budget speech, she stated “Aadhaar card for NRIs with Indian passports to be issued after their arrival in India, without waiting for the mandatory 180 days.”

Earlier, the FM also proposed to merge the NRI investment route with FPI investment route.

She said “NRI investment in Indian capital market is less. I propose to merge the NRI portfolio investment scheme route with FPI route.”
