Egyptian delegation shows interest in wheat import from Madhya Pradesh amid Russia-Ukraine war

Indore, April 12 (KNN) A delegation from Egypt has shown interest in importing wheat from Madhya Pradesh by replacing its previous crop exporters - Russia and Ukraine due to the ongoing war between the two countries.

The Egyptian delegation on Monday visited the state’s capital city of Indore to find a potential replacement of their crop importer.

Members and inspector of Agriculture Quarantine at the Central Department for Agriculture Quarantine in Egypt, Engineer Islam Farahat Abdel Aziz Abo El Ela (supervisor and head of the delegation), Dr Saleh Abdel Satar Bahig Ahmad and Ahmad Rabea Abdalla Abdel Kader were part of the delegation.

They were given a presentation by the agriculture and administrative officials over quantity and quality of wheat crops.

The quality of wheat has been divided into two categories – soft wheat that is mainly used for bread, biscuits, and chapati while hard or Durum wheat mainly used for pasta and macaroni.

A senior official while giving the presentation claimed that no outbreak of Karnal Bunt and Rust has been found by Scientists after examining 125 samples of wheat.

“Hopefully after this visit, we can list India as one of the origins to export wheat to Egypt,” said Islam.

Emphasising on factors such as demand, supply and prices, Islam said India can take over any country, if it offers a good price for the same ‘specs’ (specification/quality of crop)”. (KNN Bureau)
